Man dies after bug-eating contest

A feast of cockroaches and worms was the last meal for the winner of a bug-eating contest.

Edward Archbold, 32, of West Palm Beach, was "the life of the party," stuffing handfuls of insects into his mouth with about 30 other contestants vying for the grand prize of an $800 python at the Ben Siegel Reptile Store, Broward Sheriff's investigators said.

Shortly after the contest was over, Archbold wasn't feeling well and began to regurgitate. He collapsed outside the store and later died at a hospital, investigators said.

70-year-old Oregon farmer eaten by his hogs

On Wednesday morning, Terry V. Garner, a 70-year-old Oregon farmer, went
to feed his animals. Several hours later, when he hadn’t returned, a
family member went to look for him and found, on the ground of the hog
enclosure, his dentures.

Further investigation of the enclosure by the
family member revealed that the hogs, which each weighed about 700
pounds, had nearly completely eaten the farmer, although some body parts
were strewn about the enclosure.

Now the Coos
County Sheriff’s Office is investigating how Garner “ended up in a
position where the hogs were able to consume him.”

Teddy bears win!

Belarus' authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko
has sacked two of the nation's top defense officials after two Swedish
advertising agency employees piloted a light plane into the country's
heavily guarded airspace, dropping 879 teddy bears decked out in
parachutes and slogans supporting human rights.

Lukashenko has ruled Belarus, a nation of 10 million, since 1994,
stifling dissent and independent media. He also has boasted about the
capabilities of a joint air defense system that Belarus has formed with
Russia.

Bees Delay Flight At Pittsburgh International Airport

A beekeeper  had to be called into gather up a swarm of thousands
of bees that delayed a Delta Air Lines flight from Pittsburgh
International Airport to New York on Wednesday. The bees gathered on the wing of the plan as crews were getting ready to fuel the plane.

Swarms of bees are actually nothing new at the airport. Last May, 25,000 to 30,000 landed on the Taxiway-C light. Such swarms form when colonies become too large and the queen leaves
half of her bees behind to find a new home.

500 dead penguins washed up on Brazilian beaches

Brazilian scientists are investigating what has led to more than 500 dead penguins being found on beaches in the last week.

Autopsies are being carried out on some of the birds, which washed up
on the beaches of Rio Grande do Sul state, in the south of the country.

Biologists at the Centre of Coastal and Marine Studies said the
penguins appeared to have been well-fed, with no apparent injuries and
no oil on their bodies.

Similar incidents in the past have been blamed on shifting ocean currents and colder temperatures.

115 years is long enough

The world's oldest animal marriage looks set to have ended after
an incredible 115 years when the two Giant Turtles at an Austrian  zoo
refused to share their cage anymore.

Bibi and Poldi have been a pair since before anyone alive today can
remember - they have been together at the Austrian zoo in Klagenfurt for
36 years and before that they lived at Basel zoo in Switzerland.

They are both 115 years old - they have been together since they were young and grew up together, eventually becoming a pair.

Zoo staff realised the pair had fallen out after Bibi attacked her
partner - biting off a chunk of his shell - and then carrying out
several further attacks until he was moved to another enclosure.
