Lonesome to be lonesome even in death
GALAPAGOS ISLANDS, Ecuador, June 28 (UPI) -- Lonesome
George, the giant Galapagos tortoise who died on Sunday as the last of
his species, will be embalmed and put on display, officials in Ecuador
say.
The Pinta Island tortoise will be on display on Santa Cruz Island for future generations to see.
As the only known living example of his subspecies, Chelonoidis nigra
abingdoni, Lonesome George was considered the rarest creature in the
world.

No tadpoles here
Carrying out his fatherly duty, a male Oreophryne frog in Papua, New Guinea, guards his clutch and two newly hatched froglets that rest atop the egg mass.
Like many of the Microhylidae
family, these frogs bypass the tadpole stage, developing fully within
the egg.
Male frogs embrace their clutch each night to keep the eggs
moist and protect them from predators such as insects.
